Long Distance Triathlon Training Camp

Quick Facts

Location:
Traveler’s Rest, SC

Type of camp: Triathlon camp, cycling focused

Length of camp: 3 days

Dates: July 12th - 14th

The focus of this long distance triathlon camp is to add a safe amount of intentional overload to your endurance training. This camp is designed for long-distance triathletes who are either preparing for a late season half or full distance triathlon or would like to train in a group environment while improving fitness, confidence and skills. Athletes who attend our camp should be well-trained, healthy and strong, with adequate bike handling skills for climbing, descending and group riding. A big focus of our camps is helping our campers to improve bike handling skills and terrain management.

This camp will be primarily focused on cycling. Expect to spend a lot of time on your bike climbing and descending. This camp would be extremely valuable for any individuals planning to do a hilly long distance triathlon course like the Ironman World Championship in Nice, France.

By attending this camp, you can expect to train a lot and to learn a lot. We will combine training with education to ensure you are training smart and absorbing stress properly. With four packed days of training, we will focus on your skills, technique, form, pacing, sport nutrition and mental strength to help you fully prepare for your upcoming long distance triathlon event - or just to enhance your fitness because you love self-improvement. We will gently stretch your comfort zone as you become a more skillful endurance triathlete.

Our camp offers full SAG support, all-day access to your experienced triathlon coaches, pre-planned training routes, guidelines for sport nutrition for every workout, indoor pool and open water lake swimming, hilly bike courses (rollers and mountains), hill and trail running and lots of laughs, fun and memorable moments. We invite you to take advantage of this group training environment where you will feel challenged and impressed with your abilities. We will help you discover strengths that you never knew were possible.

If you are not sure if this camp is right for you, send us an email.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When should I plan to arrive/depart?

We suggest to book your travel so that you arrive by late afternoon on Thursday. Camp will be finished around 2pm on Sunday. We suggest to leave on Monday morning if you are flying so that you are not rushed to pack up your bike/gear.

Are there nearby grocery stores?

Yes! Publix is 5 miles from Travelers Rest. Ingles is 2.5 miles from TR. There is also a Super Walmart in TR.
There are also several farm-to-table restaurants in downtown Traveler’s Rest.

Do you cater to dietary restrictions?

Absolutely. Just let us know your food allergies/intolerances in advance and we will be sure to cater to your needs throughout camp (and at the team pizza dinner).

How should I get my bike to camp?

If you are not planning to drive with your bike, we suggest to fly with your bike. If you’d like to use Bike Flights to ship your bike, we can connect you with a local bike shop for delivery options. If you are flying with your bike (or shipping your bike), you do not need to bring your bike pump as we will have plenty available.

Do I need to bring a wetsuit?

Nope. The lake will be warm for our open water swim. We suggest bringing a swimskin to wear over your tri kit or swimsuit.

I'm nervous about your terrain, I heard it is hilly!

Yes, our terrain is challenging, specifically for cycling. If our terrain worries you, this camp may not be ideal for you. This camp is bike-heavy and you will be spending a lot of time on two wheels. We will never put our athletes on terrain that is unsafe and we select routes that will cater to all athletes at our camp.

What's the difference between the long distance camp and the early season camp?

Both camps are geared for triathletes and we expect you to bring great fitness to camp. However, the training load at the long distance camp is significantly greater than at our early season camp. Our early season camp is designed to help athletes build confidence for the first race of the season. To help dust off the rust and improve skills. While it is ok if you are not a strong swimmer or runner, both camps are very cycling focused. At our long distance camp, we expect you to be able to ride for 4+ hours on very hilly terrain and to be able to bounce back quickly from longer/intense training sessions. We have strategically placed the endurance camp late season for those who are preparing for a late season long distance triathlon or for those who would like to train without the stress or focus of a late season race.
Send us an email if you aren’t sure which camp is right for you.

What if I get injured/sick before camp but I’ve already registered?

If it’s less than 4 weeks before camp and you are unable to attend, we treat injuries and sicknesses on a case by case basis. If we are able to fill your spot, we will offer you a full refund. Otherwise, you can use your payment for a future camp or Trimarni service. We do not advise that you come to this camp with an injury or if you are just getting over an injury or sickness. We need you to arrive to this camp feeling healthy, rested and fit.

I am not a Trimarni coaching athlete, can I still attend?

Absolutely! We would love to have you at camp. We enjoy working with athletes who come from different coaching backgrounds. We would be happy to talk to your coach about your strengths/weaknesses before and after camp to help you get the most out of your future training.
